Sungai Akar Camp, Thursday, 16 July 2026. The inaugural HM The Sultan Cup, an 11-a-side knockout football tournament organised by British Forces Brunei (BFB), was held from 16–18 July 2026 to commemorate His Majesty the Sultan’s 80th Birthday and strengthen ties among Brunei’s uniformed organisations and district teams. Ten teams participated, with the Gurkha Security Unit (GSU) facing the Temburong District Team in the opening round. Despite limited preparation, GSU displayed commendable commitment, discipline and teamwork, narrowly contesting the match before eventually losing 5–2.
The tournament concluded with British Forces Brunei (BFB) defeating the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) 1–0 in the final. Despite GSU’s opening-round exit, 5517 LCpl Prem Bahadur Rai was recognised for his outstanding performance and was awarded Man of the Match. The tournament provided valuable competitive experience and strengthened camaraderie among the participating teams, and GSU looks forward to competing in future editions of the HM The Sultan Cup.
