Sungai Akar Camp, on 29 Mar 2024 – As in the previous years, the Gurkha Reserve Unit conducted Inter-Unit Championship competitions consist of various military and sporting events. This Championship competed between three Units, Guard Unit representing two teams (Guard team A & B), Support Unit and K-9 Unit teams and events ran over the year. The main objective of this competitions were to strengthen vital aspect of military and security training, culture, discipline and to foster Unit cohesion & team spirit within the organization. Furthermore, to inspire for physical and mental wellbeing and maintain healthy lifestyle.
Total of six events (sporting and military) were played, Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Drills, Security and Basic Fitness Test (BFT). Overall positions of the Inter-Unit Competition for the year 2023/24 were determined by highest scored from 6 events. Guard Unit Team A, managed to secure overall Champion unit of the year and Guard unit Team B becoming the Runner-Up, where Support and K-9 units came 3rd and 4th positions respectively.
Basic Fitness Test (BFT) are conducted in GRU for under 50 years of age, twice a year. The fastest runners in 3 categories (best aggregated timings from 2 BFTs) are presented the prizes at the end of the year.
Yang Mulia Commandant presented the Champion Trophy and Flag to the Champion Unit ‘Guard Unit Team A’ and BFT fastest runners. The Commandant congratulated all fastest BFT runners of different age categories for their hard works, dedication and exemplary achievements.
