Sungai Akar Camp, Thursday 16 Jul 2026.  The Gurkha Security Unit (GSU) has commenced the long-awaited upgrade of its Junior Rank Club (JRC), which will be renamed the “Khukuri Club” upon completion. Serving a diverse organisation large members, the club has been a central recreational facility for GSU personnel and their families. However, its facilities have remained largely unchanged for more than 30 years. The redevelopment aims to modernise the club and provide a more comfortable, safe and family-friendly environment, reflecting GSU’s commitment to enhancing the welfare and wellbeing of its personnel.

The project was initiated by YM Commandant and Deputy Commandant, who continues to place the safety, welfare and morale of GSU personnel and their families at the forefront of the Unit’s priorities. Funded through the Gurkha Welfare Fund Trust (GWFT), the project is being implemented in three phases under the supervision of Lt Ramkumar Rai (Project Officer).

With Phase 1 now successfully completed, preparations are underway to commence Phase 2& 3 in the near future. Once fully completed, the newly named Khukuri Club will provide enhanced recreational facilities and serve as a vibrant social hub, fostering stronger camaraderie, family engagement and unit cohesion across the GSU.
