Sungai Akar Camp, Thursday, 09 April 2026. The Gurkha Security Unit (GSU) bade a heartfelt farewell to Dr Hemanta Raj Gautam, marking the conclusion of over two decades of distinguished service. Joining GSU in 2006 and assuming the role of Senior Medical Officer in 2009, Dr Hemanta became a cornerstone of the Unit’s primary healthcare system. Throughout his tenure, he played a pivotal role in managing major public health challenges, including the Swine Flu, Dengue, and COVID-19 pandemics, while also contributing significantly to the successful approval of free medical treatment for GSU personnel.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, a Farewell Dinner Night was held at the Officers’ Mess, GSU, on 28 March 2026, attended by all mess members and their families. The occasion was graced by the YM Commandant, who presented Dr Hemanta with a memento and expressed sincere appreciation for his unwavering medical and administrative support to the Unit and the wider community. The evening was filled with warmth and camaraderie, highlighted by heartfelt speeches and a delightful poem by Mrs Archna Gautam, which added a memorable touch to the celebration. The YM Commandant also presented a testimonial in honour of his exceptional service.
The farewell concluded with a breakfast at the Officers’ Mess and a final send-off at the airport on 9 April 2026, where members of the GSU, past and present, gathered to bid Dr Hemanta and his wife a fond goodbye. Their departure marked not only the end of an era but also the legacy of a dedicated professional whose service, leadership, and compassion have left an enduring impact on the GSU.
