Sungai Akar Camp, Wednesday 12 August 2026. The Gurkha Security Unit (GSU) celebrated its 52nd Anniversary Open Day on 12 August 2026, bringing together GSU members, families and children for a memorable day of celebration, camaraderie and community spirit. The belated celebration provided an excellent opportunity for the GSU family to come together and mark 52 years of service, tradition and excellence.
The day commenced with the Brunei National Anthem, followed by a vibrant programme of fun and competitive activities that showcased the unique traditions, skills and capabilities of GSU. Members and families were treated to an impressive Pipes and Drums Display, energetic Taekwondo demonstrations, Khukuri Pattern, and Chhello, a traditional Nepali sport involving the throwing of stones. One of the highlights of the day was the highly entertaining and professional K9 Display, demonstrating the skill, discipline and capability of the GSU K9 Unit.
Adding to the competitive spirit of the celebration was the Inter-Unit Tug of War competition, which saw strong participation from across GSU. After a spirited contest, the K9 Unit emerged victorious, demonstrating excellent teamwork, strength and determination. The Open Day also provided plenty of entertainment for families and children.
The successful event was the result of considerable planning, coordination and teamwork. Capt Kushal Kumar Gurung, the Overall Coordinator, together with his dedicated Working Committee, is highly commended and congratulated for organising and delivering an excellent and memorable 52nd Anniversary Open Day.
