Sungai Akar Camp, Tuesday, 28 April 2026. The Gurkha Security Unit (GSU) bade a warm farewell to Dr Maj Rana Samir Ahmed in recognition of his dedicated service over the past three years. He played a pivotal role in ensuring the health and operational readiness of the K9 Unit and supporting the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Saddle Club, providing expert guidance on animal care, training, and management. His professionalism and leadership were evident in maintaining exceptionally low sickness rates, effectively managing disease outbreaks, and enhancing veterinary services through improved pharmacy systems, modern diagnostics, and preventive healthcare programmes. He also contributed significantly to operational capability, including dog procurement and breeding, and led efforts to establish international collaboration with Pakistan’s Army.
In appreciation of his service, the Officers’ Mess hosted a farewell evening on 10 April 2026, attended by mess members and their families. The occasion was graced by the YM Commandant, who presented Dr Samir with a memento and expressed sincere appreciation for his unwavering medical and administrative support to the K-9 Unit. The evening was marked by a warm and lively atmosphere, made especially memorable by musical performances from Dr Samir’s family, which added a personal and heartfelt touch to the event. The YM Commandant also presented with a testimonial in recognition of his valuable contributions to the GSU.
The farewell concluded with a breakfast in the mess and final send-off at the airport on 28 April 2026, where members of the GSU gathered to bid Dr Samir and his family a fond goodbye. His departure marks the end of a meaningful chapter, and he leaves behind a legacy of professionalism, dedication, and camaraderie that will be remembered within the Unit.
