Warrant Officer Class 1 Purna Bahadur Pun, The Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), GSU

3984 WO1 Purna Bahadur Pun (Ex- British Army No. 21165289) from Gulmi District West Nepal now leaving in Rupandehi Bhairahawa West region of Nepal. He was enlisted in the Brigade of Gurkhas on 12 February 1982. After completion of nine months of Recruit Training he joined 2nd Battalion 2nd King Edward’s own Gurkha Rifles (2/2 GR) Brigade of Gurkhas in Hong-Kong. He retired from 1st Royal Gurkha Rifles Brigade of Gurkhas on 1st April 1995, in the rank of Sergeant.

During his military service in the Brigade of Gurkhas, he was employed as a Driver Radio Operator and Signal Sergeant in Signal Platoon where he served ever since and deployed in various county Hong-Kong, UK, Brunei, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Falk Land Island during operational tour in 1986. In addition, he was able to attend and complete multiple significant courses, such as Junior Leaders Cadre in Hong Kong, Senior Leadership Cadre in Brunei, Driver Light Vehicle (UK License), Regimental Signal Standard 1 Course (UK), Clansman Repair Course in UK, Basic Electric Course in UK, Regimental Signal Instructor (RSI) Course (School of Infantry Beaconsfild UK) and Unit Fire NCO course at Defence Fire Serving Training School Stonecutter Island Hong Kong.

 After completion of his 13 years 48 days of exemplary service with 2/2 GR, 6 GR and 1st Royal Gurkha Rifles Brigade of Gurkhas, and then he joined (GRU) GSU on 9th September 1996. After completion of Induction Training, he joined F Coy 2nd Bn GRU as Rifleman now Security Guard (SG) then he was posted to Communication Department on 1st March 2003. During his dedicated service with GSU, he held several appointments such as Detail Sgt post and Training Instructor for Comms Dept, Training Instructor for Induction Trg, WOIC Comms Dept, Acting 2nd in Command Communication Department, Unit Sergeant Major Support Unit on 24 December 2020 and subsequently GSU RSM with effect from 10 January 2023. Following his long-outstanding service in GSU, he will be discharged from GSU on 6th December 2026.

WO1 Purna Bahadur Pun has been awarded the GSU Service Medal, Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, Golden Jubilee Medal & he was awarded for Honorary Medal of Brunei Darussalam. He is an all-round sportsman and keen on marathon.  He is married to Krishna Kumari Pun and is blessed with one Son and one daughter and two grandsons.
